The 3.0 Cam problem

Posted by: Jr  /  Category: Working on

So an Audi A4 3.0 comes in with a complaint of being noisy. Paul pulled the right side valve cover off to find the cause of the problem. The #2 cylinder rear cam lobe and lifter were destroyed. The lobe is worn down and the top of the lifter has disapeared. We removed the bad cam, the lifter and cleaned the area to inspect it. There was no damage to the head so a new cam was ordered and will be installed early next week along with a new lifter.

A few pics of the carnage.

Type 44 day

Posted by: Jr  /  Category: Working on

They say cars come in twos. Or pairs if you want to be gramatically correct. This time it was type 44 cars. We got two in an Audi 5000 and Audi 200. These are getting scarce but we still work on them and can get many parts.

At the back of the shop you can see the 3.0 that’s getting a new camshaft.
